Dar Es Salaam
This rich and diverse 15-day train journey travels through South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Tanzania and is evidently one of the most famous tours in the world. Beginning in Cape Town it swoops guests to the historic village of Matjiesfontein, the diamond town of Kimberley and the capital city of Pretoria for short tours followed by two nights in the Madikwe Game Reserve. Continuing down into Zimbabwe where guests overnight at the stunning Victoria Falls Hotel. Passing accross the majestic Zambezi River, the train joins the Tazara line in Zambia and continues to Chisimba Falls where guests are invited to enjoy a freeing bush walk. The train then makes a strong climb to the Tanzanian border and then descends into the haven of the Great Rift Valley. Climbing again, it treks the Selous Game Reserve – the largest on the continent and a unforgettable vision
of Africa – before its long awaited g arrival in Dar es Salaam the following day.
Pretoria station marks the start of this journey, trailing through Johannesburg and the Magaliesberg Mountains. Commencing at Mafikeng, trekking north through Gaborone lush capital of Botswana, and coursing the Tropic of Capricorn righ to the tip of our Zimbabwean border at Plumtree. Enjoy vast picturesque views as we pass through Hwange National Park – where the rich wildlife sanctuary can be spotted and enjoyed on a exclusive excursion. Our first stop will be in Kimberley, heart of our world famous diamond mine where we can exploit a chance to soak in the 1870s atmosphere of the mine museum village. Guests will continue along Kalahari Desert up to Namibia’s capital for a brief tour; meeting the lively Windhoek, uptown-city feel, with strong German reminiscents . We continue Sossusvlei, a secluded treasure in the Namib Desert, for an overnight stay followed by a night in the game-rich Etosha National Park. We then end off this remarkable journey in the 19th-century German Hansa town of Swakopmund , leaving all adventurous appetites appeased.
